Call of Duty World Championships 2017 - Day Five round-up

Championship Sunday. Who's going to take home the trophy?

HQ

Championship Sunday is finally here. We started with 32 teams, we're down to four. Rise Nation, the underdogs who nobody expected to come this far. Luminosity Gaming, who started off poorly but have made an incredible run through the losers bracket. Team EnVyUs, the boys in blue, led by Jkap who is on two consecutive rings and looking for his third. And last but most definitely not least, OpTic Gaming; the fan favourites, the number one NA team, the stage two champions. Who will be crowned champions? Four games, four teams. Let's find out.

Kicking off the action on the final day is Rise Nation vs Luminosity Gaming; the loser bows out of the competition in fourth place with $80,000 between them, while the winner secures top three and a minimum of $100,000, or $25,000 per player. Luminosity started off well, taking the Hardpoint with almost a 50 point cushion, then taking the Search & Destroy with a round to spare. Rise Nation came back strong on the Uplink, winning 6-3 through a final push in the last minute, but Luminosity didn't let it get the better of them as they won the last Hardpoint fairly comfortably.

OpTic vs EnVyUs is the winners final matchup, and was always destined to be a fantastic battle. OpTic started off hot, taking the Hardpoint decisively, but EnVy replied straight away with a 6-2 win in Search and Destroy. Uplink was a close affair, but EnVy took it 4-2 to take a 2-1 map lead, then continued that momentum into map number four and won the final Hardpoint 250-161.

Two games, three teams remain. Luminosity vs OpTic is the losers bracket final, and chants of "Let's go OpTic!" resonate around the home of Orlando Magic. Game one saw OpTic come out incredibly strong with a 143 point lead, while they continued to look solid through the S&D, winning 6-3. Their momentum carried them through a solid Uplink, sending Luminosity home and causing a rematch vs EnVyUs in the grand finals.

To take the $600,000 and the title of world champions, OpTic Gaming must defeat EnVyUs in a series of two best of five matchups due to their previous loss. EnVy on the other hand must win just one series, so just three maps, to be crowned champs and get Jkap his third ring. Everything to play for, and it could go either way.

HQ

OpTic started off hot. They won the first Hardpoint by over 100 points, but EnVy showed just how strong their Search & Destroy game is by taking the second map 6-2. OpTic hit 'em right back with a 9-2 victory in Uplink, before taking the second Hardpoint 250-204. They've done it. They reset the bracket and just have one best of five to go.

Throwback Hardpoint kicked off the final series for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and OpTic were still on a high and carried their energy and momentum through, winning the map 250-176. Crusher Search & Destroy went the same way, with OpTic taking the map 6-3. They're one map away from winning their first ever world championship; can they do it, or will EnVy pull off the reverse sweep?

Spoiler: nV couldn't muster the comeback, taking the final Uplink game decisively despite going 2-1 down early on. OpTic have won their first ever world championship, Karma has got his third ring, Crimsix his second, and Formal and Scump have earned their first. OpTic were undeniably the strongest team throughout Infinite Warfare, and we had the chance to ask them a few questions in a big press conference after the event. Check out what they had to say below, and roll on Call of Duty: WWII!
