Report: Activision Blizzard discussing reducing amount owed by OWL and CDL teams

To account for the financially tough year, teams are reported to be discussing a solution with the massive publisher.

It has been reported by The Esports Observer that Activision Blizzard is currently in conversation with its Overwatch League and Call of Duty League teams, about reducing the amount of money they owe to the publisher for the franchise spots.

Due to the pandemic and the state of 2020 overall, both leagues have suffered financial losses, due to the inability to run all Homestand / LAN event that were originally planned. Considering the live events are expected to account for a lot of the financial deficit teams would face across the year, this means that teams, in particular, less successful ones are in a tighter position.

No official information has been revealed regarding the amount teams will now owe, or whether this will actually happen, but considering the buy-in price to own a franchise in these leagues were reported to be $20 million for an Overwatch League spot, and $25 million for Call of Duty League, a slight decrease owed money might just allow these teams to survive this tough year.
