The PES League European round has just wrapped up in Berlin, as we reported on earlier this week, and during the event we spoke with brand director Jonas Lygaard about the future, and the possibility of bigger matches, even up to 11v11.
"To answer your question, if I see more gamers in the future, so 5v5, 10v10, or 11v11, potentially yes," he said. "You should never say never. Right now we're very focused on the co-op that is 2v2 or 3v3; we think that is, for now, a very good number, but you should never say never. It might be in the future you will see a situation where you see a full team playing against a full team. That would be an amazing experience [...] It's already been played in our game, where you have 11v11, so it's not something that's not possible, but it's something where 'is it the right thing for esports?'. But right now 3v3 is the right thing for us."
In regards to the 1v1 competition in Berlin, Japanese player Naoki 'Sofia' Sugimura bounced back from his semi-final elimination in the Asia round to win the whole thing here, and we also spoke to him at the event too.
"Compared to the situation where I was in Asia round, I think my mentality is getting tougher now," he said via a translator. "You don't need to respect your [opponent] very much. If you respect your player you will play very gentle, so you have to be tough, aggressive."
