Thanks, GamesIndustry.biz.

A new study from Niko Partners has found that Greater Southeast Asia (GSEA) gamers are strongly drawn to esports, with around 60% of these gamers pulled towards competitive gaming, and 42% falling into the segment of 'competitive arena gamers', who are mostly likely to be between the ages of 12 and 23.

The same report also claims that the "vast majority" of players in the GSEA region engage with esports, with the competitive arena gamers segment spending the most on games ($15.8 USD a month on average on PC titles, with $10.1 a month on mobile games).

The 'fantasy arena gamer' segment has the highest percentage of female gamers, and a lot of the segments are driven by completion and competition.

These results aren't entirely surprising considering the popularity of games like League of Legends in Asian territories, and the talent that GSEA countries have shown in various esports competitions, but the statistics still make for an interesting read.

Is any of this surprising?
