Shanghai Dragons claims the first Overwatch League Grand Finals slot

And the Los Angeles Gladiators and the Chengdu Hunters are going home.
Ben Lyons Senior Editor 24 september 2021

We're getting toward the end of the 2021 Overwatch League season now, as there are only four teams left in contention in the postseason event. Last night, the Los Angeles Gladiators and the Chendgu Hunters were both eliminated, by the Atlanta Reign and the San Francisco Shock, respectively, and we also found out the first team who has made it into the Grand Finals set for in a few days time: that being the Shanghai Dragons.

That does mean that the Dallas Fuel have fallen into the lower bracket and will have to face the winner of the San Francisco Shock vs. the Atlanta Reign to get into the championship match.

If we were looking at the regular season so far, we'd assume that the reigning champion, the Shock were actually the underdog for this tournament now, but then again at the same time, the Shock did make a monster run through the lower bracket in the 2020 postseason, leading every opportunity for that to happen once again.

The Grand Finals are set to take place on September 26 at 2:00 BST / 3:00 CEST for us in Europe. Catch all the action here.

Who do you think will take home the championship this year?
