It may happen for other events, but Riot Games said the current format for the competition is here to stay.

Riot Games' League of Legends World Championship might have just come to a close, with FunPlus Phoenix lifting the title after a final win over G2 Esports, but we have more news about the future of the competition as well.

ESPN writer Tyler 'FionnOnFire' Erzberger asked Riot about whether double-elimination format could be coming to Worlds, and they said that it's "not happening" and that it probably never will.

"They might discuss it for other events, but the current Worlds format is here to stay," Erzberger said.

In other Worlds news, Esports Charts reveals that the 2019 finals reached a peak of 3.7 million viewers, up from 2 million last year, and hours watched more than doubled compared to 2018 as well.
