Dubai getting a major esports venue

It's an ambitious venture hoping to capitalise on esports' popularity.

The Dubai Media Office has taken to Twitter to share the announcement of a brand new esports venue coming to Dubai, called the Dubai X-Stadium, which aims to be a "centrepiece" for hosting international esports events.

The venture is nothing short of ambitious, as the video with the tweet says that it aims to position Dubai as the global capital for esports events by organising big events, which will then bring in not only esports fans but also tourists, while also creating new jobs at the same time.

"We are living in a world where digital culture is reshaping all aspects of life, including sports. This has led us to develop the concept of Dubai X-Stadium, which will consolidate Dubai's status as a key digital economy hub," said Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Media Office. "The idea aims at attracting millions of esports gamers, spectators and enthusiasts from around the world and offering them unique online and in-person experiences."

This joint initiative is endorsed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation under the Dubai 10X initiative at the Sixth World Government Summit, and time will tell how it works out.
