Envy secures North Texas rights for Call of Duty league

The city-based league is in the works right now, and Envy will be one of the founding members when it launches.

Team Envy has announced big news regarding its future in Call of Duty esport, as a new press release has revealed that they've secured the North Texas franchise rights in the upcoming city-based Call of Duty league, building upon Activision Blizzard's experience with the Overwatch League.

"Our organization's roots are in Call of Duty. Envy was founded as a professional Call of Duty team in 2007 and my own journey as an esports professional began as a Call of Duty player, coach and broadcaster," said Mike Rufail, owner and CEO of Envy Gaming. "We've built one of the most-winning Call of Duty teams in the world over the last decade and are excited to bring that heritage to the new league as the hometown Call of Duty franchise for Dallas."

They will be one of the founding members of the league, and the press release doesn't give many details other than that, since the plans for this league are still under wraps for now. We're sure we'll hear more about it as the year goes on though.

"North Texas is a great sports market. Envy Gaming is fortunate to call this home. Our players are excited to live and compete here and we're excited to secure the city franchise in Call of Duty esports to pair with our hugely successful Overwatch League franchise the Dallas Fuel," added Geoff Moore, president and COO of Envy Gaming. "The fans here follow Envy and support what we're building in big ways. Bringing Call of Duty fans in North Texas a top franchise fits our history and future with Call of Duty perfectly."
