Today marks the official start date for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7, a new season of the massively popular battle royale game that is bringing aliens, Rick and Morty, and Superman to the game. While all of that is very exciting, Epic has also recently revealed a look at the changes planned for the competitive scene for the game over the next few months.
The Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS) is planned to begin on July 29, a little later than usual, as there will be a break following the All-Star Showdown that is planned for June 23-26. The first qualifier for the FNCS will mark the beginning of Season 7 of the tournament, with the season running throughout the month of August and concluding on September 4-5 (September 3-4 in the Middle East).
This season's FNCS will also be played in the trios format, and will feature a $3 million prize pool, with Europe being assigned $1,351,200 of it.
There will also be several Cash Cups and other competitive offerings over the course of the season, and you can take a look at the dates for when they are planned at the link above.
The post did also state that more details about the All-Star Showdown would be revealed "shortly after Season 7's launch" and that it will also feature "a yet-to-be-announced early season tournament."
As a final note, the post did also comment a little further on the return to LAN events. We recently reported on a leaked statement that suggested there would be none until Q2 2022, and the post so far has done little to argue against that. The post stated:
"We're just as excited about the eventual return of physical LAN events as you are, but we still have a requirement that all Fortnite tournaments must be held online until further notice. We will keep you updated on our plans for the return of LAN events."
Hopefully Epic will release more information on the future of LAN events soon, as it would be great to see a return to normality sooner rather than later.
