The 2016 Nielson Esports Report has been released and in it there are details on the fan base for esports, with statistics revealing that the number of esports fans is growing in the USA.
In America the esports fan base has grown to 14% of people 13 or older, which is an impressive increase from 8% last year. 77% of all esports fans are male and 61% are millenials, too.
There is also the statistic that esports fans are twice as likely to stream traditional sporting events online as those who aren't fans of esports, and it also reveals that 71% of esports fans stream events online, with only 40% viewing on TV. 23% of these fans have attended an event in person, too.
Esports fans also spend roughly four hours a week on esports activities or entertainment, and apparently are three times more likely than the average American to be fans of fighting sports, football or racing.
What do you make of these statistics? Do any of these surprise you?
