G2 Esports are the MSI 2019 champions

They defeated Team Liquid in the final to provide some much-needed international success for Europe in League of Legends.

European League of Legends teams don't have the best records when it comes to international events, but G2 Esports has changed that by winning the Mid-Season Invitational this past weekend, extending their success in the European Championship (LEC).

They won $400,000 USD for their troubles, although they didn't always look the most confident in the group stage, ending with five wins and just as many losses, sitting behind SK Telecom T1 and World Championship winners Invictus Gaming.

In the knockout stage though they had a thrilling 3-2 match with SKT before setting up a grand final match with North American side Team Liquid, who had actually managed to beat Invictus Gaming 3-1 to get there. After a 3-0 victory in the grand final though, it was to be Europe and not North American that emerged the winner.

Are you surprised to see G2 win?
