It will include a first-ever international tournament later this year.

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational began yesterday, bringing the top teams around the globe together in Reykjavik, Iceland to compete for a hefty prize pool and a spot at Worlds 2021. To mark the massive event in the LoL calendar, Riot has taken the time to announce that the mobile version of LoL, League of Legends: Wild Rift, will in fact be receiving Riot organised tournaments as soon as this summer.

Considering Wild Rift was only released in different parts of the world very recently, hearing that we'll get developer run tournaments in a few months is an exciting prospect. Riot has not yet given us dates or exact formats for the event, but it has detailed a few other pieces of information in the announcement tweet.

"Esports tournaments will kick off this summer with regional competition that will qualify teams from around the world into our first-ever international tournament later this year. More info coming soon."
