League of Legends World Cup is in Riot's mind

Apparently it's a case of when and not if, although the developer wants to do it right if it's happening.

Esports world cups aren't uncommon these days, with Overwatch being the most popular example of international competition, but it seems that League of Legends might be getting a similar thing, according to ESPN's Tyler 'FionnOnFire' Erzberger.

He said on Twitter that he spoke to Riot about the idea, who said that "it's a when and not an if there will be a League of Legends World Cup".

"They want to do it and do it right, but it'll take time (possibly years) for them to do it. They know the players have a full schedule and want to make it something worth playing in."

Worlds has proven how good players from all over the world can be, including FunPlus Phoenix, who won the whole thing, so there's certainly a case for a format like this.
