Madrid to host Gran Turismo Championships Euro Finals

30 drivers qualified to race at Madrid Games Week.
Sergio Figueroa 27 september 2018

In the wake of the League of Legends LCS EU Finals, Madrid will once again play host to another international Esports event. The next one will be the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships 2018 European Finals, to be held between October 19 and 20, as part of celebrations surrounding Madrid Games Week 2018.

The goal for the 30 drivers is two-fold: the Euro championships is up for grabs and there's qualification to the world finals. Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony Digital's team leader, was in Madrid yesterday detailing the upcoming tournament. There'll be grouping for the first round encounters, with rotating cars, tracks, and race conditions. From that round, the ten best qualify for the Gran Turismo Championship 2018 World Finals, and then compete for the title of European Champion.

During yesterday's presentation, Sony Interactive Entertainment Iberia's general manager Liliana Laporte said it was "an honour and an exciting challenge to bring the competition to Madrid", whereas FIA's licensing director Stephane Fillastre added that for the Federation it's "very important to have Gran Turismo Sport in our racing portfolio, as it's not the future of the competition anymore, it's the present".

We'll find out the winners in less than a month's time.
