Riot Games and LVP reveal UKLC championship

The UK's new League of Legends competition has a tower format, with the nine teams starting the spring split next month.

Riot Games and LVP have unveiled the brand new UK League Championship (UKLC) for League of Legends fans in the UK, representing an increased push by Riot Games into esports in the UK. LVP has also built their first UK-based office in London along with a brand new broadcast suite for the occasion.

The season starts on February 13 and has a tower competitive format, seeing teams ascend and then progress to the EU Masters. As for the teams, we'll see Diabolus, Barrage, Enclave, Bulldog, Phelan, Darkspawn, MnM, Fnatic, and ExceL compete. Although the latter two are also taking part in the brand new League of Legends European Championship (LEC) right now, the sides here are academy rosters.

After a tough selection process including business plans and legal information, the teams were decided upon, and will face each other every week in a best-of-one knockout tournament. The team that climbs highest then gets to face the previous week's tower champion, and if they win they get championship points.

The spring split will be seven weeks long, and the top four teams at the end will move to playoffs and the grand final on March 31, with the winner moving into the EU Masters. There are two splits though, and each will have regular season play, followed by Forge of Champions, and then a promotion tournament. Analysis will be handled by Ciernan 'Excoundrel' Lowe, Dan 'Aux' Harrison, and Jake 'Hiprain' Matthews too.

Broadcasts will run every Wednesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 23:00 GMT on LVP's Twitch channel, and you can see the brand new logo down below.
