At the recent WREC Finals in Barcelona, and with the iconic Torre Glòries in the background, other than interviewing Champions Team Queso, we got the chance to talk all things competitive LoL: Wild Rift with Riot Games' head of EMEA esports, Hans Christian Duerr, who had a lot to share about the present and the future of the sprawling scene for the mobile title.

"So for Icons, what I personally expect is a fantastic event", Duerr said about the upcoming summer finals (June 14 - July 9), which were moved from Madrid to Singapore. "It will be our very first global championship for League of Legends: Wild Rift where the best teams across the world will gather to play for the Championship title of the World Champion, so this will be super exciting. I really hope that we will see the teams that will be sending over for EMEA to be successful at the event of course, but the competition, especially from the Asian regions will be very, very, fierce, let's be honest about that".

"The second thing about the future of Wild Rift in EMEA, we're not really ready to share any details yet", the manager admits regarding potential new formats for the competition. "You talked about National Leagues, I would love to have National Leagues. I mean, if you look at European sports, national competition always makes sense, always works, but I think the market should be ready for it. We need to make sure that we have a solid foundation where eventually something like this can be built on top upon, and I think we just need to give it a bit more time".
