"Shaggy" wins first Gwent tournament at Gamescom

Austrian player takes home the inaugural Gwent Open.

There were lots of major esports event taking place during this year's Gamescom in Cologne and one such tournament was the inaugural Gwent Open. With a prize pool of $25,000, it signals a healthy start to the competitive scene of a game that has yet to officially launch.

In a bit of a Cinderella story, the tournament's wild card qualifier (the other 7 were determined via rankings) Elias "Shaggy" Sagmeister took the honours in the finals on Saturday. "Shaggy" won the finals with a clean sweep of 3-0. Both finalists are qualified for the Gwent Challenger Tournament set to take place in December.
