Super Evil Megacorp has announced that they will introduce the Vainglory Team Franchise Programme next year, which will see them work with professional Vainglory teams worldwide to "align interests and share revenue", making sure there is a healthy esports ecosystem for the game.
The programme also aims to give teams an input into developing the esports network for the game, of which there re teams like Mousesport, SK Gaming, and more involved.
"At the start of the year, our live esports events were organized by a set of community and player volunteers," said the COO and Executive Director at Super Evil Megacorp Kristian Segerstrale. "Now we are taking a major step with the Vainglory Team Franchise Program to deepen our relationships with the pro teams that are committed to helping Vainglory esports grow. We are investing significant resources to help competitive teams level up their organizations and communities so we can together build a vibrant ecosystem that will define the future of esports."
Franchise holders can claim a share of the revenue from things like ticket sales and sponsorships, and all of the parties will also work together on digital and merchandise sales as well. Unlike other franchises, however, parties are not guaranteed a spot in top competitions.
Eight partners will start the programme and the structure will be refreshed annually as the esports scene grows. This year teams can select a home city, and this enables teams to connect with local fan communities and players through events.
"Super Evil Megacorp has done a remarkable job at taking a virtually home-grown competitive community and elevating it to a professional esports structure in just a year, complete with team voices, sensible financial models and a fresh way to approach local communities," said Andy Dinh of Team SoloMid (TSM). "The new TSM Vainglory house in Las Vegas is a great example of how the community has grown over the last year and we can't wait to help shape the future of esports with the leader of the touchscreen category, Super Evil."
These partner teams will help shape the future of Vainglory in esports by setting up an advisory council to review changes proposed by SEM, such as hero balance and league format.
Teams have until January 15 next year to apply, and will come into effect in the spring. Do you think this is a good initiative?
