A report titled, "The Value of Esports in the UK" has recently shown how much the market has grown across the country over the past few years. Commissioned by trade body Ukie, the report summarises a great deal of information that states esports has grown annually by 8.5% between 2016 and 2019 in the UK.

The report also follows on stating esports across the country has supported over 1200 jobs throughout 2019, and that as a country, the UK now accounts for just under 8% of the global market.

According to the report, a major esports event could also generate 238 full-time jobs and £12 million in gross-value added (GVA) to the UK economy. As a point of comparison, last year, throughout 2019, esports managed to add £111.5 million GVA to the UK economy.

"Esports is a global sector at the intersection of technology, creativity, broadcast and entertainment - all areas of real national strength for the UK," said Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO Ukie. "This report shows us that the UK has a strong and growing esports industry, but that there is more to do to capture the full potential of this exciting, high-growth sector."
